EXPECTED SCHOOL-WIDE LEARNING RESULTS (ESLRs)
And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and men. Luke 2:52
When I graduate from Loma Linda Academy, I will have grown: Spiritually
* Accepting Jesus Christ personally and growing through His word We do weekly Bible packets and lessons on the life of Christ and his ministry. We go through the 4 gospels with the students. We go over memory verses every week through scripture and challenge each other to apply them to our lives.
*Showing commitment to the Church:
We are partnering with our local constituent church pastors this year to provide more opportunities for our students to interact with and get to know the church leaders. We are writing letters and praying for our pastors. In turn they are visiting the classroom more often. Intellectually
*Demonstrating thinking skills, study skills, communication skills, and life skills necessary to succeed in college and a career:
Students learn to write in various genres (personal narrative, essay, mystery, persuasive, How To, Research, Compare and Contrast).
Students learn to present up front in class. Students learn critical thinking skills. (compare/contrast, infer, evaluate, question) and we practice them while reading current event periodicals (Scholastic). Students participate in cooperative learning groups to increase their communication and cooperation skills. Students are learning good test taking strategies and study skills. Students learn to take responsibility and become accountable for completing their own assignments and getting them in on time. Appreciating beauty wherever it may be found We do lots of creative projects (illustrating, dioramas, crafts, origami, etc.) We do a unit on the rainforest and preserving our earth.
*Physically:
Living a healthy, balanced lifestyle One entire unit in our science curriculum deals with health. We learn about how water, breathing, trusting in God, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and sunshine help us stay healthy. We have an entire unit on the human body and its different systems. Then students learn how all of the body systems are connected and how best to take care of each system. We have a chapter on drugs and how they negatively effect the body and quality of life. We also talk about the immune system and diseases processes. Developing a program of life-long fitness This is accomplished by the P.E. program
*Socially:
Maintaining healthy, interpersonal relationships This is learned through worship stories, personal conferences with students who have interpersonal struggles, and discussions about positive problem solving strategies. We have a elementary wide disciplinary program called KELSO that encourages positive communication and problem solving strategies among the students.
*Displaying responsible citizenship with a desire to serve others:
We do several service projects, Letters to our pastors (all 6th grade), letters to our United States soldiers, raising money for books for the children's hospital (Mrs. Hubbard), Scarves for the homless (Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Hubbard), raising money to save the rainforest (Mrs. Christoffel) etc.)
